Center City

“Center City” is what Philadelphians call their downtown - the historic city core that dates to its 1682 founding. With the third-highest residential population of any U.S. central business district, Center city is not a neighborhood but a collection of neighborhoods that range from tony Rittenhouse Square and Society Hill to immigrant gateway Chinatown, with just about everything in between. What do you want? Great shopping? Enticing dining options? Arts and culture? High-rise luxury?

Art Museum & Fairmount

Convenient location allows you to to complete a busy of day of visual admiration with fantastic eats and excellent drinking destinations. Resting just beyond Benjamin Franklin Parkway, home to Philly’s truly world-class museums, Fairmount is synonymous with fine art — but it’s far from the only draw of Center City’s effusive northern neighbor. Often referred to as the “Art Museum Area” due to its walking-distance access to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Franklin Institute, Rodin and Barnes Foundation, Fairmount possesses a distinct personality that thrives independent of those hallowed halls. Just far enough away from “the city,” young families are investing in a life here, drawn in equal stead by the proximity to beautiful green space and the thriving food scene. Getting acquainted with Fairmount is now easier than ever, thanks to surrounding neighborhoods on the commercial and residential rise.

Aptly named, this neighborhood is within walking distance to Philadelphia’s treasured ‘Museum Row.’  Capped by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, its attractions sit along the wide boulevard of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and include The Barnes FoundationRodin Museum and The Franklin Institute.  The area originally owes its name to William Penn himself, who named its high hill with views of the Schuylkill River “Fair Mount.”  Later during the nineteenth century, the area became home to the Fairmount Water Works and the founding of Fairmount Park, one of the country’s largest park systems.

Close to the head of the Schuylkill River Trail, this neighborhood provides access to one of Philadelphia’s favorite routes for walking, running and bicycling.  Boathouse Row, the central home to Philadelphia-area rowing clubs, provides a historic and beautiful backdrop along the way.
The Art Museum/Fairmount neighborhood is mainly residential, and attracts families and professionals who seek a bit of quiet while retaining access to shops, supermarkets and some of the city’s favorite culinary spots and bars.
